The Top 5 2019 World Series Match-Ups We Want to See

After 6 long months, baseball season is nearing it’s end. The playoff teams are almost set with only one spot still up for grabs (the second AL Wild Card spot) and the stage has almost been set for what is sure to be an unbelievable postseason. As a Met fan, I don’t have a horse in the race, which happens a lot, so rather than rooting for one team, I usually root for a certain match-up in the World Series. Nobody wants to see a blowout in the World Series and with some of the top teams so close in every category there are some great match-ups we could potentially see this year. I fucking hate the Yankees with everything in me, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t looking forward to a WS with them against some of the NL teams.

1-New York Yankees vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

This World Series would be fucking epic! The root of this epic series would be the history that these teams have. Not just the history they have playing each other, but the fact that these teams both originated in New York and are two of the most decorated franchises in baseball history. Let us also not forget that they have both been 2 of the 3 best teams in baseball this year.

The Yankees are the most decorated franchise in American Sports history with 27 World Series titles. They’re history doesn’t need to be told. The Dodgers on the other hand have 6 World Series titles with 5 of those coming after the move from Brooklyn to Los Angeles. They have faced each other in the World Series 11 times with the Yankees winning 8 of them. The history of these franchises alone would make for a must watch World Series.

If you erased history, this would still make for a must watch series as the Yankees and Dodgers have both been at the top of their divisions for the majority of the season. The Yankees, even with all their injuries, put out one of the best lineups in baseball night in and night out. Aaron Boone should also not be overlooked for Manager of the Year in the AL. The job he has done is incredible. The Dodgers have a great lineup and and MVP candidate but guys like Clayton Kershaw, Hyun Jin Ryu, and Walker Buehler have really put this team over the top.

This World Series match-up is without question the one all baseball fans want to see.

2-New York Yankees vs. St. Louis Cardinals

Another match-up where the history of both teams goes without saying. The two franchises with the most World Series titles meeting up in the Fall Classic would be great for baseball.

The Cardinals struggled out of the gates but put it together mid-season to clinch a playoff berth and make them the favorites to win the NL Central. The lineup came together at the same time to get going in the second half of the season and the pitching staff has been great all year as they are in the top 6 in the MLB in ERA and BAA.

On the opposite end of that is the Yankees lineup. The Yankees are in the top 5 of every major offensive category and they have carried this team to a division title. What a match-up it would be to have their lineup face off against one of the best pitching staffs in baseball.

3-New York Yankees vs. Atlanta Braves

This match-up goes straight to the 1990s and early 2000s when these were the 2 most dominant franchises in baseball. The Braves on one hand won 11 straight NL East titles, but have only 1 World Series banner to show for it. The Yankees on the other hand had one of the greatest dynasties baseball had ever seen winning 4 WS in 5 years including 3 in a row from 98-00.

2 of those Yankees WS wins came against the Braves in 1996 and 1999. This would be a great revenge story as the Yankees are one of the biggest reasons the Braves did not win more during their reign in the NL East.

The Braves also came out of the gate a little slow, but once they took control of the NL East they never looked back. Led by a bonafide superstar in Ronald Acuna this team is actually flying a little under the radar in comparison to LA, NY, and Houston.

Enough has already been said about the Yankees to know that these two lineups facing off in a World Series would be an absolute must-watch series.

4-Houston Astros vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

This is all about the two best starting rotations in baseball. The Astros already had a top 3 rotation with Verlander and Cole but they decided to fuck around and go get Zach Greinke at the trade deadline. They have 3 pitchers who are consistent Cy Young candidates and all 3 are legitimate aces.

The only team who might be confident in matching those top 3 are the Dodgers with a 3 headed monster of their own. Ryu, Kershaw, and Buehler may actually be able to go toe to toe with the Astros’ 3 aces.

I am a sucker for pitching duels even though a lot of new fans are not, but this match-up might actually be favorite to watch if it were to happen. Just imagine a WS Game 7 with Verlander against Kershaw. That is a pitching match-up for the ages!

5-Houston Astros vs. Atlanta Braves

Two of the most exciting lineups in baseball facing off in a World Series would be fucking electric. It is not just the talent here that makes this WS compelling. It is the way these teams do it. With guys like Springer, Altuve, Bregman, Acuna, Freeman, Albies, and Donaldson this WS would not be short of superstar bats.

Bat flips for fucking days is what I am seeing. All these guys love hitting BOMBS and then flipping bats. This is the kind of match-up we need to really let everyone know that baseball is still exciting.

Now the Wild Card games start next Wednesday and the World Series starts October 22nd. No matter who gets there, we are sure to have a great match-up for the 2019 World Series.
